US medical mission performs 100 surgeries and one thousand patient consultations on various islands

Praia, April 28 (Inforpress) – The US medical mission to Cape Verde has completed surgeries and consultations in various specialties on the islands of São Vicente, Santiago, Santo Antão, and Fogo.

Summing up the work carried out during one week on these four islands, the surgeon and president of the Association of Cape Verdean Doctors Residing in the United States of America, Julio Teixeira, said they performed around 100 surgeries between the islands of São Vicente and Santiago, 50 in each, in addition to more than 500 consultations on the islands of Santo Antão and Fogo.

The specialties included ophthalmology, cardiology, orthopedics, plastic surgery, laparoscopy, head and neck surgery, pediatrics, anesthesia, and nursing during this mission.

“There were 40 doctors, but with groups spread across the islands of São Vicente, Santiago, Santo Antão, and Fogo, and surgeries were performed at different hospitals in the country. In addition to these consultations and surgeries, we also conducted workshops and symposiums during this time,” the same source said.
