Praia, Jul 16 (Inforpress) – The Minister of Justice, Joana Rosa, argued that unwanted pregnancy can not be a cause for the non-accountability of parents and they must, at birth, give legal personality by giving a name to their children.
Joana Rosa, who was speaking Thursday at the closing of the 1st phase of the project called “Creating conditions in the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the conclusion of the own-initiative investigation and verification of paternity/maternity”, filed by the Attorney General’s Office and the United Nations International Emergency Fund for Children (UNICEF), also warned that the responsibility of parents should not be limited to give children a name, but also, in the assumption of their responsibilities, of their parental duties.
“This training course is now ending, sponsored by UNICEF, is of unqualified value because it is not conceivable that in a country of about five hundred thousand inhabitants, there are about 4.000 children without recognized paternity,” she said.
Joana Rosa also quoted the statistics have been updated and despite the efforts the Courts have also made, according to the State of Justice report for the judicial year 2019/2020, 3.429 cases of own-initiative investigation paternity, which compared to the previous year, there was an increase of 7.2% compared to pending cases, which was 3.200.
