Praia, Nov 24 (Inforpress) – The National Union of Workers of Cabo Verde – Central Union (UNTC-CS) said “it does not recognize any platform created in absentia” of the organization’s statutes, also pointing out to persecution against the secretary general, Joaquina Almeida.
UNTC-CS Permanent Commission member Fernando Baldé, spoke to the press on Monday, in reaction to the press conference of 12 unions affiliated to the organization that publicly presented a Union Platform aiming to “unite and rescue” the union central.
As he pointed out, UNTC-CS “does not recognize any group, much less any platform”, because they were created “in absentia” of the organization’s statutes, explaining that the statements made by the president of the Metalworking, Transport, Tourism and Telecommunications (Simetec) are “illegitimate and in bad faith”.
“He and his comrades defend personal problems, they are not interested in the workers’ problems, particularly seafarers, who have been abandoned for more than 20 years,” he said.
