University of Santiago creates Distance Learning Programm for Cabo Verdeans in Diaspora

Praia, Aug 12 (Inforpress) – The University of Santiago created US Virtual Diaspora to offer, as of October, a distance learning programme for Cabo Verdeans living in the United States of America (US) and other parts of the world.

The creation of US Virtual Diaspora was thanks to a proposal by a group of US-based academics who have been working for the last two years in tune with the University of Santiago dean, Gabriel Fernandes.

In an interview with Inforpress, Júlio de Carvalho, chairman of the installation commission responsible for boosting training offerings for the diaspora, said that US Virtual Diaspora will have a “big impact” on the lives of Cabo Verdeans and people from other nationalities, resident in the United States of America, who want to study, but have some difficulties.

“In the United States, there are thousands of Cabo Verdeans, Portuguese and Brazilians who want to study, but for various reasons, including personal and family constraints, costs, language barriers, they are left on the sidelines of the successes and opportunities that this country (USA) offers,” said Julio de Carvalho, who is also a university professor and community activist in the United States.
