Mindelo, Sep 13 (Inforpress) – The president of the Union of Trade Unions of São Vicente (USSV) said today in Mindelo that the impact of rising electricity prices “will be huge” in the island, “facing” the problem of unemployment and poverty.
Tomás de Aquino, who was speaking at a press conference, recalled that São Vicente is an island on which, in addition to industry, the service, tourism and culture sectors have a “significant weight”, hence the consequences of this increase.
“The Union of Trade Unions of São Vicente has publicly condemned and vehemently repudiated the brutal increase in the price of electricity announced to the country, which reaches 37%,” said the president of USSV, a member of the Union Platform – Unite and Rescue the UNTC-CS.
Tomás de Aquino recalled that since 2011 salaries in the Public Administration have been “frozen” and during this time Cabo Verdean workers “lost more than 10%” of their purchasing power.
