Unemployment is the common denominator in Santiago Island – António Monteiro

Praia, Feb 4 (Inforpress) – In an interview with Inforpress, António Monteiro, president of the Cabo Verdean Independent and Democratic Union (UCID), said that unemployment is the common denominator in Santiago Island and called on the Government to quickly solve this problem.

António Monteiro made these statements in the balance of the visit he made this Sunday to the neighborhoods of the City of Praia, after also visited on Saturday, some municipalities in the countryside of Santiago.

“Contrary to what the Government says, the unemployment rate is probably decreasing, being on the ground and taking into account what people tell us, leads us to believe that unemployment is really the biggest problem in the Santiago Island and the Government must create the conditions to quickly be able to overcome this problem”, asked António Monteiro, for whom unemployment mainly affects young people.

According to António Monteiro, in the neighborhoods of Lém Ferreira and Achada Grande, several young people questioned the UCID’s MPs about what they, as MPs, can do so that these young people can earn their day to day, because of the lack of jobs.
