Praia, Sep 17 (Inforpress) – A Cabo Verdean immigrant living in the USA has made available a batch of school supplies and clothing, collected through a campaign developed with the aim of helping disadvantaged children in the Santiago Island, on their return to school.
In an interview with Inforpress, Catarina dos Santos, known as Ludy dos Santos, explained that the idea of this campaign, developed on social networks, came after finding “the unfortunate situation” some Cabo Verdean families face to ensure a quality education for their children.
“When I was on vacation in Cabo Verde, in the island of Fogo, my son asked me if I could give some clothes to his little friends who wore torn clothes, I agreed. When we got back to the Santiago Island he did the same thing. With that I realized that we could do something would somehow help my country,” she said.
As soon as they returned to the country of residence, she said that her son started collecting materials to send to his friends. However, she said the campaign gained dimension after talking to a friend who encouraged her to do something bigger that could benefit many more children.
