U.S. Ambassador says Africa could increase its food production capacity with crisis

Praia, Aug 8 (Inforpress) – The U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations said Sunday that no one and no country is immune to the impact of Russia’s war in Ukraine and this crisis could be an opportunity for Africa to have greater food production capacity.

Linda Thomas-Greenfield made these statements during a joint press conference with Cabo Verde’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Regional Integration, Rui Figueiredo Soares, after a meeting with the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, in Praia.

As she said, she has visited three African countries in recent days, where she had the opportunity to meet with the heads of state and Government of Uganda, Ghana and Cabo Verde, with food insecurity and the war in Ukraine on the agenda.

The main purpose of this visits to Africa is to address the global crisis of food insecurity combined with the drastic rise in fuel prices, derived from the war in Ukraine, still the very severe impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change, especially on the African continent.
