Tuberculosis mortality rate is within WHO parameters but requires redoubled efforts, Health minister

Praia, Aug 7 (Inforpress) – The health minister has revealed that the mortality rate for tuberculosis in Cabo Verde is within the parameters set by WHO, but warns for the need to redouble efforts in this “important public health problem” .

During the closing of the 3rd African Parliamentary Summit on Tuberculosis, this Tuesday in the City of Praia, Arlindo do Rosário stressed that “current data point to an annual incidence of 33 / 100.000 and a prevalence of 38 / 100.000 with a downward trend”.

He specified that the detection rate in 2018 was 80%, “considered very good” by the World Health Organization report, and stated that the annual mortality rate has not exceeded 5 tuberculosis deaths per 100.000 inhabitants, established as acceptable by the WHO

That is why he said that these data are encouraging but still require efforts in the full implementation of the WHO End TB strategy, which, he said, supposes to end this disease as a public health problem by 2035.
