Porto Novo, September 28 (Inforpress) – The minister of Economy and Employment, José Gonçalves, said today in Porto Novo that Santo Antão is “at the forefront in terms of sustainable tourism development”, and there are “some structuring initiatives” that reflect this reality.
José Gonçalves, who was speaking at the presentation of the Raízes project (Local Networks for Sustainable and Inclusive Tourism in Santo Antão), co-financed by the European Union at 500 thousand euros (55 million escudos), believes that the experience to be developed in Santo Antão, in this domain, should be “shared” in other islands of the country.
“We are going to look for ways to share and take Santo Antão’s experience in sustainable tourism to other islands and municipalities,” said the Minister, who highlighted the Raízes project as “an example” and “a structuring initiative” that reflects the development of sustainable tourism.
According to the official, it is a project that attributes “particular importance” to nature tourism, a segment that, in his view, “must be specially cherished” in Cabo Verde, more specifically in the islands of Santo Antão, Fogo and São Nicolau.
