The Minister announces creation of community mental health teams and validation of the National Suicide Prevention Strategy

Praia, Mar 8 (Inforpress) – The Government announced this Wednesday, “soon” the creation of community mental health teams and validation of the National Suicide Prevention Strategy, aiming to promote and strengthen the area of mental health in the network of primary care in the country.

The announcement was made in parliament by the Minister of Health, Filomena Gonçalves, during the parliamentary debate in March, adding that this initiative will have the support of the National Institute Ricardo Jorge, from Portugal.

Filomena Gonçalves also advanced that the National Strategy for the Prevention of Suicide in Cape Verde will be validated shortly, stressing that it will strengthen the country’s capacity to respond to one of the main factors of death by “external causes”.

“For us, the health and well-being of Cape Verdeans are not and will never be taken for granted. Our way of governance shows this. The development and construction of a universal, quality, proximity and sustainable health system is done on a day-to-day basis, but with structuring, proactive and flexible policies and measures”, she declared.
