The Association Terrimar warns of a “serious problem” with marine pollution causing damage to turtles

Porto Novo, Jan 18 (Inforpress) – The association Terrimar – Environment and Sustainable Development, based in Santo Antão, this Tuesday expressed concern about marine pollution, which considers “a serious problem” causing “damage” to sea turtles.

The concern was announced today by this association following the death of a female turtle of the caretta carreta species on Armazém beach, in the city of Porto Novo, a victim of marine pollution.

The turtle was found wrapped in nets and fishing lines, explained the association, according to which the case of this turtle is “just one example of thousands that happen in our seas”.

Terrimar warns of the “serious problem” that is marine pollution, which has been causing “damage” to sea turtles.

In the municipality of Porto Novo, the City Hall will this year financially support the campaign to protect sea turtles, according to its activity plan for 2023, in which it has entered an amount of around 60 million escudos for the environment sector.
