Tarrafal, Jul 29 (Inforpress) – The City Hall of Tarrafal today commemorates the centenary of the birth of Agostinho Neto with a guided tour to the former Concentration Camp and a lecture on the theme “Agostinho Neto, peace and national reconciliation”.
António Agostinho Neto was born on September 17, 1922, in Icolo e Bengo (Angola), and died on September 10, 1979, in Moscow, Russia. The initiative, promoted in partnership with the Embassy of Angola in Cabo Verde, aims to make known more about Agostinho Neto and reflection on the legacy of the Angolan doctor, politician and poet who was president of the MPLA (1962-1979) and the first President of Angola (1975-1979).
“His thinking, convictions and political action decisively marked the history of Angola before and after independence, but he was also a man who also played an important role in supporting Cabo Verde from the first moments of independence,” the statement reads.
The event is ready for 11:00, in the Noble Hall of the Palaces of the Municipality of Tarrafal, and will count on the presence of the mayor of Tarrafal, José dos Reis, the Ambassador of Angola in Cabo Verde, Júlia Machado, and different national and foreign personalities.
