Praia, Nov 10 (Inforpress) – The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, sworn in on Tuesday, promised to be on the front line of the struggle for the the officially recognizing of Creole.
José Maria Neves, who made his inaugural speech, written and read in Creole and partly written and read in Portuguese, stated that the mother tongue is the part of Cabo Verdean culture that more and better synthesizes and translates the heroic history of Cabo Verdean cultural identity.
“As President of the Republic I will be at the first line of the struggle” for the the officially recognizing of Creole, based on all variants, because they are the marks of its wealth and strength as a language of this people scattered across several islands,” he said.
José Maria Neves, who succeeds Jorge Carlos Fonseca as Head of State, promised that he will always do his best and with all his abilities and energies, always with deep humility and an unwavering commitment to the nation.
