Praia, Jul 09 (Inforpress) – The President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, Umasso Sissoco Embaló, said in Praia he regrets and do not understand why Guineans who are born and live in Cabo Verde have so many difficulties in getting Cabo Verdean documentation.
The Guinean Head of State, who is on an official visit to Cabo Verde and spoke Thursday to the press after a first meeting with his Cabo Verdean counterpart, Jorge Carlos Fonseca, called for the same treatment that is given to Cabo Verdeans in Guinea for Guineans residing in the archipelago.
“I’m sincerely sorry. I just don’t get it. That in Guinea wasn’t going to happen to Cabo Verdeans,” he said.
“Never a Cabo Verdean in Guinea needs to have a document from Cabo Verde or its Embassy. They only go to the Embassy of Cabo Verde to register so that when they want to vote they can vote. You don’t have to. Suffice it to say that I am Cabo Verdean, by inerence is Guinean”, he added.
