Security in Cabo Verde requires further examination and strong civil society engagement – MpD

Praia, Apr 26 (Inforpress) – The MpD stated that the increased crime in Cabo Verde requires a “strong engagement” of the civil society and further examination to understand the causes are at the root of this phenomenon.

The Movement for Democracy (MpD – ruling party) position was expressed by MP Vanusa Barbosa, in a press conference on the balance of parliamentary days for the second parliamentary session this month, which will have as a highlight the debate with the Prime Minister on the security sector, proposed by PAICV (opposition party).

According to this person responsible, the MpD’s Parliamentary Group is following up with some concern and sense of responsibility the security issue which, in her point of view, must always be seen in a comprehensive perspective because the security issue is a vast and important theme for the development of any society.

There really is an increase, this increase has already been reported by the Ministry in charge and we think that whenever there are these increases because it is a social phenomenon, we must take into account that we must analyze all the variables, do an in-depth study to understand the causes are behind these phenomena,” she acknowledged.
