Secretary-General of the PAICV says that political year “was not positive for the country”, claiming “some regression” of democracy

Praia, Aug 8 (Inforpress) – The Secretary-General of the PAICV said Monday that the political year was “not positive for the country,” claiming “some regression” of democracy “even in the parliamentary house ” where, according to Julião Varela, there was an attempt to “conditioning and silence the opposition”.

“The Rules of Procedure of the Parliament and the laws of the Republic have been violated, the word has been improperly and repeatedly taken to the deputies, threats have been made even on the party’s illegalization (PAICV) by the most enthusiastic deputies of a democracy with one voice” , said the leader of the African Party of Independence of Cabo Verde, in the opposition, during a press conference for the balance of the political year.

According to Julião Varela, during the year, “to the shame of all, it was carried out the most serious act of preventing, by force and in the margin of all the country’s legislation, the mandatory constitution of a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI).”

“It should be recalled that this was a mandatory CPI, which was not subject to the will of the majority, counting on the majority votes,” said the leader of the “black star party”, referring to the TACV-Cabo Verde Airlines case, which since August 1 has stopped flying to the islands of the country, this obligation being in charge of Binter-CV, a new national air carrier.
