Mindelo, Jul 29 (Inforpress) – The basic health units (USB) in São Pedro, Salamansa and Calhau will now be transformed into health stations, supported by a partnership between the Health Department and the City Hall of São Vicente.
The intention was confirmed Tuesday during the signing of an agreement between the two institutions, which will allow, according to the São Vicente Health delegate, Elísio Silva, to achieve an objective set about five years ago.
Elísio Silva said that he started this project with visits by doctors and specialists to these locations, followed by visits to pharmacies and now these locations may have health stations with permanent nurses.
“Thanks to the agreement we signed, because the Health Department alone could not solve this problem, because it is important to have a nurse full time and we would have to create the conditions for nurses to be interested”, stated the same source.
“Creating more conditions and bringing more health to the localities, this is the most important thing, and, in this time of pandemic, having better health conditions and having better trained professionals we can say that we are preparing for an eventual pandemic in the island”, said Elísio Silva, adding that the three young nurses were assigned by the Ministry of Health and are “well prepared”.
