São Vicente: UCID calls for “retroactive measure” for housing purchase process of the Casa para Todos Programme

Mindelo, Sep 4 (Inforpress) – UCID President António Monteiro has called on the Government to apply a “retroactive measure” to reduce housing prices for the Casa para Todos Programme, the costs of which should now be borne by the executive.

The leader of the Cabo Verdean Independent and Democratic Union (UCID, opposition party) reacted to last week’s statement by Housing Minister Eunice Silva that government subsidization could be a solution to lower prices and can sell the approximately two thousand Portuguese-funded housing units in classes B and C for the price of at least two million escudos.

According to the same source, the Christian Democratic Party welcomes this possibility, as there are still several houses to be sold, in a project whose financial burden is “extremely large” for the economic dimension of the country and all engineering financial support, he said, will be done to solve the problem, and give the Cabo Verdean the possibility to buy these houses “is to be praised”.

However, UCID is worried on who will assume these costs, since they speak of values that amount to “between 4 and 6 billion” escudos and still with the possibility of the loss reach “11 billion”, if extend to other people who previously bought houses.
