Mindelo, May 4 (Inforpress) – The Minister of Finance said today that the time has come to “encourage and support” the private sector, which “forces a change of attitude” between the State and international institutions, which in recent years relate mostly to State.
Olavo Correia spoke this morning in Mindelo at the workshop opening on mechanisms and financing / investment opportunities for the Cabo Verdean private sector, in partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB).
The minister took advantage of the occasion to remember that the country has lived in recent years much anchored in public aid and debt, a model that is “exhausted”, so that a different model of promoting inclusive but also environmentally responsible economic development must be found.
“This has a different role for the private sector, but international institutions will have to find a new focus of intervention, which is the private sector,” said the minister, adding that the AfDB in this area has had a “negligible intervention” with a single intervention with the private sector so far, which is “clearly insufficient” for what the Government’s ambition is.
