São Vicente: Sokols Movement urges authorities to seek solutions to Cabo Verdean justice

Mindelo, Feb 23 (Inforpress) – The president ofthe Sokols Movement, Salvador Mascarenhas, urged the authorities to sit down at the table, debate and find solutions to Cabo Verdean justice, which is in a “serious situation” and needs to be resolved urgently.

The independent movement’s leader made these considerations following the demonstration organized by the Sokols this Monday in Mindelo, in favor of lawyer Amadeu Oliveira, who was detained by the National Police Saturday in the city of Praia, to ensure his presence in the trial for which he would have publicly announced he would not attend.

Salvador Mascarenhas said the demonstration, which allowed supporters to join together on the square next to the Court of The District of São Vicente, a “citizen initiative to show the indignation of citizens before the state of justice”.

“And taking advantage of the situation of Amadeu and his trial was a window of opportunity to demonstrate more strongly we are not happy with the situation of justice in Cabo Verde,” said the same source, appealing to the President of the Republic, Government and courts to discuss the matter and find a solution.
