São Vicente: Municipal elected officials fail budget and municipality continues under twelfth regime in 2024

Mindelo, 11 Sep (Inforpress) – The municipal elected representatives of São Vicente failed today, with 11 votes against, nine in favor and one abstention, the Activity Plan and the Municipal Budget, meaning the municipality will continue under twelfths in 2024.

The votes that failed the management instruments came from seven elected members of the Independent and Democratic Cape Verdean Union (UCID), four from the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV).

The Movement for Democracy (MpD) gave nine votes in favour and the Independent Movement Más Soncente (MIMS) abstained.

As a result, the municipality of São Vicente will once again be under the twelfth regime in 2024, after a year under the same regime due to the non-approval of management instruments.

    São Vicente: Ministry of the Sea presents final version of the National Strategy for the Sea 2023-2033 Mindelo, Dec 8 (Inforpress) – The government is preparing to present the National Strategy for the Sea 2023-2033 and its action plan, an instrument for planning, operationalising and implementing economic and social development related to the sea and the economic activities it supports. The Ministry of the Sea said that the presentation workshop should take place on the 19th in the conference room of the Chamber of Commerce of Barlavento, in Mindelo, followed by a debate/clarification session. The same source clarified that the National Strategy for the Sea 2023-2033 came from the responsibility of the National Directorate of Maritime Policy (DNPM) to propose and develop measures that promote the competitiveness of the sector, aiming to make the country a maritime logistics platform in the Middle Atlantic. It will provide answers to the “major challenges” of the decade and will strengthen Cape Verde’s position and visibility in the region and the world as a “historically and geographically maritime” nation.
