São Vicente: Minister of the Sea wants ‘more ambitious’ country in the fisheries sector and promises to “tackle the problems head-on”

Mindelo, Jan 28 (Inforpress) – The Minister of the Sea said on Thursday in Mindelo that Cabo Verde needs to be “more ambitious” in the fisheries sector and announced that “definitely” it is necessary to “tackle problems head-on” and transfer resources to the sector.

At the end of a visit, this afternoon to the companies Frescomar and Antulo Cabo Verde, Abraão Vicente said this is the first analysis and conclusion he draws from these days as holder of the sea folder, despite the “much has already been done”.

“We will tackle the problems head-on in the fishing sector and demand it be the centrality of the economy in Cabo Verde,” said the Minister, who has already identified “the big gap” of national shipowners, which is that lack of financial capacity to go buy tuna and other vessels on the international market.

It is necessary to create mechanisms, and took the opportunity to remember that today was announced in the plan for recovery in the economic sector, a package of 300 million escudos, a maximum of 20 million escudos per company, and the share of the Fisheries Support Fund up to 20%.
