São Vicente: Minister of Culture highlights the importance of document preservation for the country’s future

Mindelo, Apr. 10 (Inforpress) – The Minister of Culture highlighted the importance of document preservation for the future of the country, arguing that new technologies and artificial intelligence can be allies in this process by revolutionizing access to information.

Abraão Vicente made these remarks while presiding over the opening of the “Awareness and Training Workshop on Document Heritage” at the National Center for Art, Crafts, and Design (CNAD) in São Vicente, organized by the Cape Verdean National Committee for Memory of the World (CNC-MEMU), which has defined the launch of the first application for the UNESCO Memory of the World Register as its main challenge for 2023.

“If before, researchers and universities often had to invest years and years searching for information, with correct digitization and transposition to the digital world, and with the attachment of the benefits of Artificial Intelligence, we may, in the coming times, have absolutely extraordinary revelations that would take centuries to decipher,” the minister declared.

Abraão Vicente recalled that “the future of documents and artificial intelligence, the interaction and simultaneous integration of various world archives” will be one of the topics of the UNESCO General Conference, which is scheduled to take place in November this year in Paris (France).
