Mindelo, Nov 5 (Inforpress) – The idea of planting micro algae for aquaculture use was the “big winner” of Startup Weekend held this weekend at the Lusophone University of Cabo Verde, Mindelo, which brought together 40 participants and eight business ideas.
The intention, according to Progreen representative Arielson Delgado, is to bring “innovation” and cultivate micro algae, which have “all the conditions” to be produced in Cabo Verde and firstly will be sold to shrimp aquaculture companies.
“But when we make a profit, we plan to expand to food supplements, animal feed and even biodiesel production, which has had a lot of global interest”, he said, adding that they have already identified “potential customers” and are “almost 70% sure”, he assured, that they will buy the product.
The selection, which was known Sunday, was made by a jury and goes to the theme of the Blue Economy, chosen for the edition in São Vicente, and which, according to the executive director of Cheetah Star, Samir Pereira, of the event organization, reached 25% of the total of the proposals presented by the 40 participants.
