São Vicente / INTERVIEW: Salamansa Boat Workshop already produces for Santiago and Boa Vista

Mindelo, Dec 26 (Inforpress) – The Boat Workshop, built in the Salamasa fishing zone in São Vicente, through the Sustainable and Solidarity Tourism Network project, already builds boats for the island’s fishing zones and for islands such as Santiago and Boa Vista.

This information  was provided in an interview to Inforpress by the Amigos da Natureza Association’s president, Aguinaldo David, who led the Sustainable and Solidarity Tourism Network project in the island of São Vicente.

According to the same source, the Boat Workshop was developed with a funding of 2.6 million escudos with the aim of enhancing the profession of boat builder  which risked to disappear in the fishing communities with the death of the elders who mastered this art.

According to Aguinaldo David, in addition to falling into disuse, the work of building boats was done outdoors and “without any conditions.” Now, he said, the workshop is led by young Jerry Rodrigues, 30, and employs five people who make boats for the different fishing zones of São Vicente and other islands.
