Mindelo, Mar 18 (Inforpress) – The initiative aiming to create a Marine Protected Area (AMP) in the Calhau area had the signature of more than one hundred residents from the fishing community, according to the president of the Biosfera Association, Tommy Melo.
The project for the new AMP was presented today by Tommy Melo to the President of the Republic, Jorge Carlos Fonseca, who, at the invitation of the Biosfera, lowered the board of the ecotourism company “New Blue”, created under the same project and will serve to promote activities related to the environment.
“It will serve to set activities generating financial resources but in a sustainable way, that is, so that the Calhau community can take its livelihood from the same area that will probably be a marine protected area. But let them do so in a sustainable way, guarding future generations and themselves,” the same source explained to Inforpress.
Tommy Melo rejoiced the initiative had the signature of almost the entire community of Calhau, with more than one hundred signatures.
