Mindelo, Jul 09 (Inforpress) – The promoter of the Fazenda do Camarão project in São Vicente, Nelson Atanasio dos Santos, told Inforpress Thursday the company plans to produce 46 tons of shrimp this year, thus doubling production compared to the previous year.
“In the past we have produced 23 tons of shrimp, but I believe this year we will exceed the production of the previous year, or produce at least twice as much,” said Nelson Atanasio dos Santos, for whom Cabo Verde, in total, does not reach 30 tons of seafood among lobsters and other species.
According to the investor, this project has already proven that it is feasible, that it is necessary for the country, and proved to the population that Cabo Verdeans like shrimp. But the main one that is financing is missing, he said.
For Nelson Atanasio dos Santos, the cancellation of flights to São Vicente and the COVID-19 pandemic caused “enormous difficulties” to the project. He explained that initially they imported larvae to then feed and raise in São Vicente, but with the cancellation of flights from Boston, they could not import and had to do local production.
