Mindelo, Sep 16 (Inforpress) – When, three years ago, the agribusiness entrepreneur Amílcar Lopes decided to invest in two artificial lakes on his property located Ribeira de Julião, he did it with “confident” that “sooner or later” the rain would come to fill them.

The visionary, despite three years of severe drought, counted exactly from the investment date, Tuesday, with a wide smile on his lips, and four thousand tons of water stored later, the entrepreneur reinforces the idea that “the Cabo Verdean weapon is hope”.

“I never gave up, always with the idea that rainwater would fill the reservoirs, it was a personal effort, but to show that we can make and store rainwater”, he said, an idea that came up, he said , from the study he made on the cheapest and simplest way to store rainwater than, for example, building a dyke.

“If I make a good profit from the four thousand tons, I will have water for a year for irrigation, in an area of two hectares”, stated Amílcar Lopes, who said he had done the experiment to show that any farmer can do the same and profit from the investment, in instead of investing in boreholes, which require large amounts.
