Mindelo, Apr 1 (Inforpress) – The José Damata Monteiro Foundation will offer five scholarships to students School of the Sea students, in São Vicente, from next September.
Speaking to Inforpress, the Foundation president, Ismael da Silva, explained the scholarship was created in honor of his father Gregório Simão Silva and is aimed at students interested in the high school course in the navy area.
According to the same source, Gregório Simão Silva was an employee of the captaincy of ports in São Vicente for 30 years and “helped many young people to travel clandestinely in foreign boats supplied Porto Grande in the years 1950 to 1970”.
“It was against the colonial regime and issuing clandestinely maritime registration ballots than the number established by the colonial government to be able to help the younger ones leave Cabo Verde in search of a better life in other countries,” said Damata Monteiro Foundation President.
