São Vicente: Coral Cove Support Group puts underwater trail in Laginha

Mindelo, Aug 3 (Inforpress) – The Coral Cove Support Group, led by environmentalist Guilherme Mascarenhas and biologist Rui Freitas, began Monday the placement of an underwater trail in the coral cove of Laginha.

Speaking to Inforpress, environmentalist Guilherme Mascarenhas explained that the trail is composed of concrete blocks, of 60 kilos each, and in each block will have information about endemic species, pollution among other informative phrases.

“The blocks have some information covered with an acrylic plate and will be placed on the bottom of the sea on a route, just like the one already exists in the Baia das Gatas. There is information about species, endemic fish, coral bleaching, about pollution, about an endemic shrimp was found here in 2020”, explained Guilherme Mascarenhas. According to the same source, this is a way to value this coral cove and, at the same time, give another tool for those who are diving, having fun or taking tourists to Laginha.

According to the environmentalist, the proposal to create the trail was delivered a year ago to the Ministry of Marine Resources, which issued a positive opinion and promised to finance the project, but the group got its own funding and started the placement of the trail, whose inauguration will take place later.
