Mindelo, May 3 (Inforpress) – The Cultural Center of Mindelo hosts, on Thursday, the 4th, the presentation of the book Manual for the Study of the Cape Verdean Language and Cape Verdean Grammar Project for Teaching Kriol to Foreigners, by Manuel Melo Santos.
According to information from the center’s advisory, the author of this work has travelled a “long path” and dedicated “a lot of effort” and study until reaching the final product, his “humble contribution” as he himself says.
Although not a linguist, according to the same source, Manuel Melo Santos dared to embark on this “creole adventure” after a journey in which he “left the islands of Cabo Verde, his homeland, becoming an adventurer in search of more knowledge, life and new experiences in diferente cultures, both in Africa and Europe and even on a European ship as a sailor”.
The particularity of the contents of this manual are 35 lessons in Barlavento Creole, in the São Vicente variant, and 50 Units with grammar lessons, containing practical application exercises, with a view to facilitating the communication and understanding of the Cape Verdean language for foreigners, who “come from far away to live on this island, among its communicative and friendly people”.
