Mindelo, Jun 8 (Inforpress) – The Minister for Marine, Paulo Veiga, told Inforpress today that Cabo Verde should, even going through difficult times, conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.
Paulo Veiga was talking under the World Oceans Day this year is celebrated under the theme “The oceans: life and subsistence”.
“The indicators show that in times of crisis, such as the one we are currently experiencing with COVID-19, the sea-dependent economies such as traditional fishing, maritime transport, international trade, among others, job losses have always been smaller than the economy in general,” said the minister.
According to the ruler, in addition to sustainability, because it is one of the countries which suffer most from the pollution of the seas, because much of the garbage appears on this coast comes from countries in northern Europe, Cabo Verde must create strategies to mitigate and adapt to climate change. Another challenge is the creation and proper management of Marine Protected Areas.
