Mindelo, Jun 24 (Inforpress) – The president of the environmental association Biosfera 1, Tommy Melo, Tuesday announced the creation of a toll-free number so that citizens can make complaints about illegal activities related to turtles and sand extraction.
The same source told Inforpress that the toll-free number should be socialized by the end of this week or beginning of the next, so that people can report, anonymously if they prefer, any illegal activity related to sea turtles or even sand extraction.
“Biosfera 1 will receive calls from the toll-free number, which will be available to any citizen and free of charge, and forward it to the authorities”, he said. It is an instrument that, according to Tommy Melo, will help in the protection campaigns implemented by the institution in São Vicente and Santa Luzia.
In the case of São Vicente, the campaign started this Monday with Biosfera 1 operating in direct partnership with the other entities on the island, including the Sea Institute (IMar) and the Ponta d’Pom association.
