São Vicente: Baptista de Sousa Hospital with first low sight service in the country – responsible

Mindelo, Jul 11 (Inforpress) – The Baptista de Sousa Hospital (HBS) has currently the country’s first low sight service, which has been operating for about two years and has allowed patients to “improve their quality of life”.

This service was set up, according to the ophthalmologist and also in charge of the HBS Polyclinic, Karina Mascarenhas, thanks to donations from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which allowed to obtain optical tools that help people with very low sight.

The diagnosis has been made by the team of ophthalmologists and orthoptists at the hospital, who try to help patients to have a “higher quality of life” and to do the daily tasks with “more facility”, assured the expert, in an interview with Inforpress about the World Sight Day, which is celebrated today.

“We selected people with low sight and the orthoptists see which technique best suits each patient and give the first instructions,” explained Karina Mascarenhas, adding that this care is to be complemented with follow-up to patients, given by the Association of Disabled of Cabo Verde (ADEVIC).
