Mindelo, May 3 (Inforpress) – The president of the Independent and Democratic Cabo Verdean Union (UCID, opposition party) today accused the Prime minister of wanting to “perpetuate himself in power” by bringing to Parliament last week a law of Incompatibilities to “weaken” the opposition parties.
Antonio Monteiro, also a MP elected in the UCID lists by the constituency of Sao Vicente, today called the press to “give the answer” to Ulisses Correia e Silva who, last week, in Brava island according to the same source blamed his party for the failure of the draft law of incompatibility in Parliament.
“The UCID understands that it has done well not to vote in favor of the proposal presented by the Government,” said Monteiro, considering that the draft law is “unconstitutional and castrative” of the rights of Cabo Verdean citizens.
In essence, said the source, the draft law aims to “drive away from party politics” the professionals who, when confronted between making a career in Public Administration and belonging to a political party opt, “of course”, for the first option.
