Santo Antão: Women’s micro entrepreneurship project in rural tourism raising awareness of communities about the environment

Porto Novo, Apr 28 (Inforpress) – The Women’s micro entrepreneurship project in rural tourism, which is being implemented in Santo Antão, within the framework of Italian cooperation, has started a campaign to raise awareness among communities in this island about the issue of environment.

The awareness campaign, explains the project coordination, is being carried out in partnership with the Fundamental Foundation, based in Santo Antão, with “the objective of alerting about the problem of garbage and the importance of preserving endemic species” existing in this island.

A note from the project shows that Caibros, in Ribeira Grande, and Santa Isabel, in Paul, were already the localities covered by raising awareness activities, which have served to “show communities how to manage garbage properly and the problems the mismanagement of this garbage can cause to the environment and people”.

The project, which also covers the islands of Fogo and Santiago, is funded by the Italian Cooperation Agency Allo Sviluppo and is being implemented in partnership with the Cabo Verdean Institute for Gender Equality and Equity, Ministry of Agriculture and environment, Directorate-General for Tourism and Transport, among other institutions.
