Santo Antão: Turtle nest in Praia Pequena should hatch from the 12th

Ribeira Grande, Oct 11 (Inforpress) – The turtle nest in Praia Pequena is expected to hatch from the 12th of this month and this will serve to promote awareness actions for the preservation of sea turtles among school children.

The nest, which had about a hundred eggs, was moved to safety because it was in a place where it could be destroyed by the waves of the sea.

INDP Delegate at Ribeira Grande, Renato Delgado, who was warned of spawning by two young people who regularly go to that beach, told Inforpress at the time that “turtles hardly come out at Praia Pequena because of the beach’s own morphology.”

According to Renato Delgado, this is a beach with very high waves and where pebbles abound and this does not allow the turtles to spawn.
