Porto Novo, June 5 (Inforpress) – The project on renewable energy in Monte Trigo, which consisted in the installation in 2012 of a photovoltaic plant in this community of Porto Novo, Santo Antao, is “a pride for the European Union (EU), the funding entity.
Who say it is the EU ambassador to Cabo Verde, Jose Manuel Pinto Teixeira, who visited Monte Trigo this Saturday to see closely the benefits that the project has brought to this locality and to witness “the importance of renewable energies to overcome social and environmental” problems of isolated localities.
Monte Trigo, with almost 300 inhabitants, is one of the most isolated villages in the countryside of Porto Novo, but thanks to the project, financed under the SESAM-ER program (Sustainable Energy Service for isolated rural settlements through Small Networks with Renewable Energies on the island of Santo Antao) by the EU in 163 million escudos, the local population significantly improved their living conditions due to the opportunities created in the framework of this project, which gave light for 24 hours a day to the village.
According to Jose Manuel Pinto Teixeira, there is “an exemplary project that we are all proud of”, for its impact on the lives of the population of this community that thanks to electricity can promote fishing and tourism, areas that Monte Trigo has excellent potential.
