Porto Novo, Apr 12 (Inforpress) – The launch of the International Year of the Mountains, today in the natural park of Cova/Ribeira da Torre/Paul, in the Planalto Leste, in Santo Antão, marks the highlight in the President of the Republic visit to this island.
José Maria Neves said that he will take advantage of the event to, from Santo Antão, “raise awareness of Santo Antão citizens and Cabo Verdeans to the need to take advantage of all the riches and potentials the mountains offer”.
“And nothing better than do this from the island of the mountains,” said the President of the Republic, who takes advantage of his stay on the island to direct, even today, a conference on the theme “The mountain and biodiversity”, attended by students from the Coculi and Suzete Delgado High Schools.
The launch ceremony of the International Year of the Mountains takes place in the natural park of Cova/Ribeira da Torre/Paul, which is considered the largest biodiversity center of endemic plants in Cabo Verde, with 36 species, of which 16 are on the “red list” in the country.
