Ponta do Sol, Jan 18 (Inforpress) — The Minister of Territorial Cohesion, Janine Lelis, said Tuesday that it is “essential” to review the Statute of Cabo Verdean municipalities in order to “gain” skills to promote employability and the local economy.
“We have to keep doing more and make a qualitative leap. It is in this perspective that the municipalities gain from now on a new cycle a fundamental importance” she said.
Janine Lelis, who was speaking at the opening of the II Forum – Portuguese Speaking Countries Meeting, said that municipalities have an “important” role in the development of the country.
Therefore, the same source urged that by completing 30 years of local power the Government has the “real” notion of what was the contribution of municipalism to the development process of Cabo Verde. The representatives of the Portuguese Speaking Countries municipalities and associations are in the city of Ponta do Sol for the exchange of ideas on the development of the municipalities of the Portuguese Speaking Countries.
