Santo Antão has the second highest rate of diabetes in the country – study

Porto Novo, May 10 (Inforpress) – Santo Antão has the second highest rate in the country for the incidence of diabetes mellitus (06.1%), behind only Maio with 07.1%, according to data from the Sanitary Region in the island, citing a study on this disease.

“Santo Antão, in a study conducted for people between 18 and 69 years old, with regard to diabetes mellitus disease, has a rate of 06.1%, being the second highest percentage in the country, behind the island of Maio, with 07.1%,” explains the Sanitary Region in Santo Antão, about a meeting promoted this week for the adoption of guidelines on physical activity and prevention of sedentary lifestyle in Cabo Verde.

The meeting was an initiative of the Sport and Youth Institute (IDJ) and the National Directorate of Health, in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO).

In terms of hypertension, the island of Santo Antão also occupies the second position in the ranking of the islands most affected by this disease, with 34.1%, behind São Nicolau, with 42.2%.
