Santo Antão: Garbage collection returns to normal in the city of Porto Novo after the “chaos” that occurred

Porto Novo, Nov 11 (Inforpress) – The garbage collection and transportation system in the municipality of Porto Novo, Santo Antão, which has been facing many setbacks lately due to the constant breakdowns in the waste car, is normalized.

The constraints, which have recently marked the sanitation system in Porto Novo, have already forced the City Council to trigger an “emergency plan”, using “alternative means” for garbage collection, such as truck belonging to City Council and private.

When the only old vehicle for the collection of waste is damaged, the service is provided by “inappropriate vehicles” that endanger the health of the workers themselves, the residents report. In this sense, the local authority announced the purchase of a new car for waste collection, to meet the existing problems, as part of the planned investments in the sanitation sector in this county, during the year 2020.

As Inforpress learned, next year the City Council of Porto Novo  intends to invest around 18 million escudos in the improvement of solid waste collection and management, being the priority the purchase of a new garbage collection and transportation truck, in addition to the requalification in the municipal dump.
