Santo Antão: Fundamental Foundation warns of increased forest fires on this island in recent years

Porto Novo, Jun 13 (Inforpress) – The Fundamental Foundation, based in Santo Antão, warned this Sunday, to “the increase in forest fires in recent years” on this island, a situation that, in its view, worries local institutions and Santo Antão citizens in general.

This foundation made this warning regarding the fire that broke out this Saturday on the Costa Lesta of the island of Santo Antão, which will have been, according to the civil protection services, caused by fires in the context of preparing land for the upcoming water period.

“The considerable increase in fires in recent years in Santo Antão concerns not only the Santo Antão citizens but also the leaders of the institutions of the Island”, stresses this Foundation, referring that “the impacts generated by this type of disaster, in addition to directly affecting the environment, also bring negative consequences for the health of the population”.

For “these and other reasons” must “all unite, to defend, preserve and promote the integrated and sustainable environmental development of Santo Antão”, called this institution of social and environmental nature.

At the inauguration, the director of the National Center for Art, Crafts and Design (CNAD), Irlando Ferreira, showed that the exhibition and the brand represent the achievement of a “very great” challenge, because working from São Vicente to Brava, through digital means, “is completely different” than when working in person. As he pointed out, since 2018, when the project began, they were already aware that it would be a challenge, but the motivation of the creatives, both designers and the hand-embroidered made by women, made the CNAD and everyone involved bet everything was possible so that the project could get to what it is today.
