Assomada, Sep 13 (Inforpress) – The first turtles (more than 70) from the nests of Areia Mota beach in Ribeira da Barca, Santa Catarina (Santiago), were born last week and were thrown into the sea by young volunteers who “watch” that beach.
The information was provided today to Inforpress by the young Eldair Tavares, better known as “Babudo”, one of the volunteers of this fishing village, remembering that at the moment the beach has about eight nests, six of which are signposted and the others due the rough sea lost the “marks”.
Babudo explained that the first “turtles” were born from nests were not signaled by volunteers, and even being “layperson in the matter” managed to throw more than 70 to the sea. The same source said that they predict from September 19 may have new born.
“The new births have already begun and are always a cause for joy,” said the young man, who once again asked for support from the associations in the Santiago Island which deal with turtle preservation to help them, so that they can protect this marine species and make Areia Mota beach in the near future its place to spawning.
