Sal Island: Alex Saab transferred to house arrest in the south of the island

Espargos, Jan 26. (Inforpress) – Colombian businessman Alex Saab was this afternoon transferred to house arrest on the south side of the Sal Island, under a release warrant, under a heavy police guard.

Alex Saab, considered to be the forehead of Nicolas Maduro, President of Venezuela, has been detained in the Terra Boa prison since June 2020, now released to house arrest, will be kept under “strong surveillance” by the National Police (PN) , within a considerable security perimeter, Inforpress learned.

The release of that individual is due to the fact that the legally fixed period for pre-trial detention with a view to extradition has expired. According to the document to which Inforpress had access, the extradition request will continue to be processed in legal terms until the final decision.

Alex Saab was arrested on June 12 by Interpol and the Cabo Verdean authorities, during a technical stopover in Sal Island, based on an international arrest warrant issued by the USA.
