Rowing crossing São Vicente-Santo Antão still not sponsored to reward athletes – Organization

Mindelo, Aug 5 (Inforpress) – The organization of the rowing and board crossing São Vicente / Santo Antão told Inforpress today that the awards for the 6th edition of the race, which takes place on Saturday, remains “uncertain due to lack of sponsorship”.

This information was announced to Inforpress by one of the organizers of the rowing crossing São Vicente-Santo Antão (Remex), Aníbal Delgado, criticizing the “the lack of respect” of the local and governmental institutions linked to sports towards water sports.

“Overall, in Cabo Verde we talk about the sea, we are 99.9 percent (%) sea, but I am very sad because when we talk about water sports we are not recognized. It is a huge lack of respect for athletes who practice water sports.

Cabo Verde had everything to gain if it gave support because we have many athletes who could represent the country,” he said.

According to Aníbal Delgado, so far, the 6th edition of the race has only the support of “lovers of Laginha beach and water sports in São Vicente” and the City Hall of Porto Novo (Santo Antão) who, he explained, “entered the race in its budget since the first edition and is currently preparing to receive another edition of the competition”.
