Praia, Feb 11 (Inforpress) – The municipality of Ribeira Grande de Santiago won the 1st international edition of the “Progresso Prize” (Prémio Progresso), with the ‘Banco Social Program’, for its originality and innovation for the well-being of citizens, worth 6 million escudos.
The prize, awarded by the Andalusian Fund of Municipalities for International Solidarity (FAMSI) and the Foundation for the Development of the People of Andalusia (FUDEPA), will be presented on March 12 at the Jaén Palace of Congresses (IFEJA) in Granada (Spain).
Speaking to Inforpress, the Mayor of Ribeira Grande de Santiago, Manuel de Pina, considered that the prize will further enhance the Banco Social program, whose objective is to empower people.
The Banco Social, according to Manuel de Pina, was created with the aim of empowering families, fighting social handouts and promoting the local economy, supporting families in implementing their projects that contribute to local development and their livelihood. With this program, the municipality has already benefited around 400 families to develop their projects with the financing requested to carry out an economic activity.
