Praia, 19 May (Inforpress) – Cabo Verde is taking part in the 17th African Championships of Gymnastics to be held today and Saturday, 20 May, in the Mauritius islands, with a selection composed of three gymnasts, led by national team coach, Helena Atmacheva.
Márcia Lopes, Noa da Veiga and Leua Alberto are the Cabo Verdean competitors in this competition that also counts with the competition of athletes from countries such as Angola, Egypt, Tunisia, Uganda and South Africa.
In this, which is first African Championship of the Nations of the sport to be held in Mauritius, an event that brings together the best practitioners of the continent, the Cabo Verdean delegation is led by the vice president of the Cabo Verdean Gymnastics Federation, Olavo Luz.
The rhythmic gymnastics competition will also serve to determine the continent’s representatives who will be in the World Championship, scheduled for Valencia (Spain), from 23 to 27 August of the current year.
For this participation in the 17th African Championships of Gymnastics, the biggest competition of the sport in the continent, the Cabo Verdean delegation was sponsored by the Institute of Sport and Youth (IDJ).
