Mindelo, Jul 1 (Inforpress) – The Neve Insular project focuses on cotton cultivation, which has already allowed up to two collections this year of this ecological product from São Vicente and produced at the Madeiral Agroecological Center, said the promoter, Rita Rainho.
This is how this project, which was born in 2018, is part of the “Boka Panu” competition promoted by the Handicraft and Design Fair (URDI) of the National Center for Art, Crafts and Design (CNAD) and whose fabric with a pattern Cabo Verdean as creative material.
An opportunity that Rita Rainho and Vanessa Monteiro, one of the promoters, found to launch “Neve Insular”, an idea that revolves around cotton, not with the ultimate goal of producing material for the textile industry, but rather to create an organic plantation for respond as raw material for a “creative laboratory”, stated Rita Rainho to Inforpress.
“This is a project where we can, both educationally and artistically, have raw material to study and create new products”, explained this artist and designer, indicating that they decided to invest in their own plantation, in 2019, after having made carding and spinning workshops for children and farmers, initially using imported cotton and also some spontaneous collected on the São Vicente Island.
